Forage Sorghum
Forage sorghum remains a key summer forage option across northern Australian mixed farming systems. It provides rapid biomass accumulation under high temperatures and moderate moisture conditions, making it well suited for grazing or silage. Management focuses on early establishment following effective weed control and maintaining adequate nitrogen levels to support regrowth. Attention to prussic acid risk after frost or moisture stress is critical. It also serves as an effective rotational tool for weed suppression and soil structure recovery prior to a winter cropping phase.
