Oats
Overview
Oats are widely integrated into southern Queensland and New South Wales rotations for both grazing and grain production. They contribute to winter feed supply and act as an effective disease and weed break in cereal-based systems. Agronomic success relies on timely autumn sowing into adequate moisture, balanced nutrition and rust management. Dual-purpose programs require careful grazing management to optimise recovery for grain yield. Oats also improve soil condition and leave valuable stubble cover for subsequent summer crops.
